Very strongly scented. A well named variety because the unopened buds have a bright crimson red hood and hang down below the opened flowers. The flowers have red "flag" petals and light pink or white "wings".
The seed coat is often split with this variety. It looks a bit different but doesn't adversely affect the germination, in fact it helps it along!
